An absolutely gorgeous pixel art submission, and the animation has an appreciable level of subtlety and fluidity to it. I was initially getting Alice in Wonderland vibes, and I can still easily imagine her having all kinds of strange adventures as she slumbers. Excellent use of the full 16-color palette, and your application of light and shadow really creates a sense of comfort and warmth.

Looking forward to seeing what you create next! Talk about an impressive first unveiling.

VampireDev responds:

Thank you! I definitely wonder what kind of strange adventures she is having in her dreams.

He's clearly the wheel deal, but hopefully his ego isn't overinflated. I'll bet he's getting really tired of all these puns right about now. :3

Really digging the design work on this dude, and his sidewall revolver looks awesome...even if I have no idea how it could possibly function in reality. Thank goodness that's not what this is! Lots of nice little touches, like the belt buckle and string tie, not to mention a very aesthetically pleasing sidearm.

Your wordplay/portmanteau naming convention is as on point as ever with Treadshot. Love the level of imagination and skill behind your work, man! Just wanted to let you know, and - as always - I'll be looking forward to the next design.

jouste responds:

really kind words! thanks a lot I really appreciate the amount of work you put into this review. I'll keep at it!

*highfives

This is how I would envision Santa if he were more like Lloyd Christmas(!!) and decided to trade his big-boy sleigh and eight reindeer for a child's sled. Hopefully you've seen Dumb and Dumber, or the reference won't land.

If he were on a saucer sled, I would have made a Christmas Vacation reference. *shrug*

All that silliness aside, I find your seasonal pixel art to be delightfully adorable, and I love the way his bushy beard is whipping over his right shoulder! Ho ho, whoooaaa--!

Cyberdevil responds:

What a suitable name that was. :) I probably did once upon a time, though barely remember the two were also known as Lloyd and Harry now!

Hehe. Saucer sled next year maybe!

Thank you! Definitely wouldn't be as dynamic without that beard!

Crazy cool mockup, and this would make an amazing game! The world is ready for its next great hero. I mean hey, if a common earthworm can be one...

I also just kind of want there to be a super attack called the Tater Tornader, where he spins around like a whirling dervish and fires off a salvo of omni-directional spuds. :P

ChazDude responds:

I'd be happy to receive your ideas/advice should this game somehow come to fruition!

Took a stroll through your other art subs, and while I generally liked what I saw, this is by far your most ambitious pixel offering. There's just no wasted space here, and between the adorable character poring over her tome, the exceedingly high level of detail, and all of those gorgeous lighting techniques, you have managed to craft a truly masterful piece of art!

The candle's flame is much larger than what I would typically expect, but I figure that maybe she used a bit of her alchemical prowess to make it burn all the more brightly. I kind of wish that it had a less uniform shape, especially since fire is such a uniquely flickering element, but that's really my only critique. Amazing job!

EdiUzuki responds:

The flame was disputing my attention with the book on the table, is easy to see wich one win ! Thanks you for accept that flaw as a lore fact ! :D
And thanks for enjoy !

Oh yeah, I've definitely named him that, purely for ironic effect. I actually wanted to name him Prometheus in a subsequent playthrough, but they just don't allow enough characters...

I really love seeing Chrono Trigger references in your art style, man! It's like seeing one of my favorite moments from video gaming history in a brand new way. Nostalgic and fresh, all at the same time. Thanks for a good chuckle. :D

Butzbo responds:

Wow thanks! Yeah I enjoyed names which made for absurd scenarios, and also going with the 'true' names you were not supposed to know at that point. (wow Chrono has a bunch of them!). Now I'll continue with my playthrough :)

This is stunning imagery, and I really want to give it full marks, but her face looks all kinds of wrong without those massively oversized irises of hers. One seemingly small detail changes her entire look. That's my only critique, but man...talk about a small thing having a huge impact.

MsRisuko responds:

Thank you for the observation! I didn't kinda think of that cause' I just did her eyes how usually do , but next time I draw her I'll did her with her big irises lol

Came for Serge of Chrono Cross fame, stayed for the OC.

Cool character art, man. Really nice to see a number of different styles on offer, from the more polished and sketched versions, to a couple of VG sprite mockups. I also noticed that Evan, from the 8-bit image, is wielding a weapon that very much resembles the Swallow, Serge's iconic weapons of choice.

Fun fact: The goofy rock-to-the-head sketch totally cracked me up!

Orlek-sketch responds:

Thank you very much! you're right, Evan's weapon looks like the Swallow from Chrono Cross, however, last year when I made that mockup, I think I was trying to make something more like Zidane's synthesized weapons because I was replaying Final Fantasy IX at the time. I'm glad that you enjoyed these pieces! ^^

Pretty solid Madness-themed art. The detail work on Hank is really nice, but the other guys in back are so indistinct they just come off as background fodder. Lightning looks cool, but the complete lack of firearms, which are a huge staple of the series, makes it feel oddly incomplete.

While the inclusion of the year is cool, centering it like this just causes your main focus to completely cover the middle two numbers so it looks like 29. My suggestion would be to put the 20 off further to the left, while putting the 19 over on the right. Having the whole number visible makes sense, and that would have a really nice aesthetic.

Overall, good job. A few simple adjustments could really help make it shine!

Kyuri08 responds:

Thank you for your advices!im glad u told me that ^^ it really helps.Cuz I'm busy ,i didn't spend a lot of time doing this work…sooo there are still a lot of details i didn't get right…I still need to learn more.
Next year I'll try my best to make a better work.
Anyway,thanks for telling this (*^ω^*)

The only thing I don't like is how the line art for the circle goes right across the main focus of the image. If you scrubbed that part out it would stop interfering with your character art, and would give a much cleaner appearance, overall.

Besides that, I think you've made some great pose choices here, and it works very well as an O.C. compilation. The color scheme is quite nice as well, with all of its contrasting blues and pinks. The subtle drop shadow also looks good. Lots of little touches here and there, and I really like how you didn't just rely on black for your line work.

Maybe you should consider putting Mug on an actual mug, and other things besides. But first, those circle outlines really should be relegated to the background, like in the one where she's sleeping.

coby responds:

Thank you for your review! I’ve always wanted to put her on shirts and stickers, a mug sounds like a great idea :)
