Right off the bat, this reminds me a lot of the vulture you did a few years back, but with even more fine detail. While it's undoubtedly awesome in its pure black & white form, it would be an absolute travesty to not add color to all these fantastic elements.

Since you've already put so much time and effort into this, might as well take it to the next level and make it a true showpiece. That's my two cents, man.

Hyptosis responds:

Thank you!

Pretty darn cute and all, but...shouldn't she have green hair? I mean sure, I get that blonde hair best represents Samus, but it would have been cool to at least add a green streak in order to represent the Justin Bailey design more accurately.

That aside, nice outfit, gun, and winged high tops designs. The pose seems a bit odd, but the look on her face is priceless.

onionsketch responds:

Yea green hair is from NES (after getting Varia Suit). This design is based on a fan-made sprite hack for Super Metroid. Also, I've drawn Samus with green hair a couple times before (one uploaded to NG).

Thanks for feedback.

This is excellent, Troisnyx! I really like the overall style and all those little nuances, especially the bunched fringe under her clavicle. Since the character illustration ultimately takes up most of the frame, the lack of a background isn't even an issue. You've used a simple yet effective color scheme that is particularly eye-catching. The eyes have an especially realistic quality, as she gazes wistfully into the distance.

While this is indeed one of your most impressive works to date, there are still a few issues to address, so I hope that you can take a bit of constructive criticism along with the compliments. We can only learn through experience, after all, and the artist is often too close to a project to view it objectively. Hey, that's what feedback is for!

First off, the arm holding the bodhran beater/tipper looks a bit too long for her other proportions, and the fingers are bent at a rather impossible angle. And yeah, I know...hands are hard. Next, while this character's head isn't inordinately small, her face and jawline still don't quite match up with her neck, which could stand to be a touch less wide. As such, her ear looks like it's attached more toward the back of her head, rather than the side and a part of her face.

Continue practicing your illustrative skills and the sky's the limit. Best of luck in all you do, and oh yeah—Happy Saint Patrick's Day! To your health.

Troisnyx responds:

Duly noted for future reference, thank you so much ;_; Slainte!

An excellent likeness of my all-time favorite Doctor, portrayed by the highly talented David Tennant! That said, I've really been loving your Doctober series, and am looking forward to the rest. Keep up the phenomenal work.

5 Sonic Screwdrivers out of 5!

JinnPixel responds:

Thank you very much, pal!

That is one cute af third eye cat! Nice job, man.

And he seems to have beaten that slowpoke Link to the Triforce. Burn!

deathink responds:

Yeah, I wonder what his wish will be?

I guess klinikum hasn't been binge-watching Daredevil on Netflix...

Congrats on being Frontpaged yet again, man! Am I just supposed to write a short one-liner comment? Damn, I'm not very good at that. Suffice to say, it looks just like him! Loving the overall style and how appropriately beat up you made him here. Those angry Irish blokes really made a mess out of him.

JohnnyUtah responds:

thanks sir

Is that Guybrush Threepwood on the right? It definitely has a bit of that Monkey Island vibe -- especially with the, erm...monkey -- right there in the foreground elements.

Though I suppose it could be some other arbitrary pirates on a completely random island that just happens to be populated by primates.

I really like the colour palette you chose for this; a wide array of earthy browns, greens, and yellows, as well as a bit of strategically-placed purple. Quite appropriately adventurous and piratical, not to mention a fantastic piece of art for Pixel Day! Very nice.

BenjaminLefferts responds:

So... it's not supposed to be Guybrush. But I would not be at all surprised if I accidentally made it look like him. He probably found a way into my mind space while I was making this... maybe. Its hard for me to even think about pirates without thinking of Monkey Island :D.

But yeah, I was shooting for different pirates on a random island thing. :)

But anyway, I'm glad you liked it and thanks for your feedback!

I am in awe of the sheer pixelated badassery that is this. Love the way you added an interpolation effect to add even more to the retro feel. So many amazing Newgrounds references that it blows my freaking mind with a fully-loaded nostalgia cannon! :D

Thank you for playing! But our Tom Fulp is in another castle...

ScepterDPinoy responds:

Maybe I include some easter eggs on the kill screen font if you're trying to search for the latter quote you mentioned.

I honestly find this one to be a little more disturbing than your usual fare, but I also kind of feel like that's what you were going for, perhaps. All that mustard yellow feels earthy, yes...but also somehow toxic. The face is rather mask-like with its open-eyed stare, and the details in purple and red also lend to the ominous overtone.

The imagery, coupled with more stanzas of intriguing poetry, conjures up the suggestion of life and death. The endless cycles of birth, death, and rebirth. Endings and beginnings. In some ways these have been on my mind of late, such as with the advent of the new year, so perhaps that is colouring my opinion somewhat.

Ah, well--simply my own musings, after all. What does this painting represent to you? I wonder....

shouGawa responds:

When I paint I let the emotion of the moment guide me. At the time that I was painting this piece I was really feeling the pain in my life but also the light within my being and the depth of life. I don't know about anyone else but sometimes I sit and think about that depth and just how huge a thing life is as well as how quickly it can be lost. That's maybe what you are seeing about birth and death...

The mask quality was due to this being about the inner person. I wasn't concerned about fleshy features as much as about the forces that make up my soul. It's a self portrait of sorts. Pain and light, flesh and soul mixed together. And fleeting and solidity pulling at each other but side by side. Ever the whole. At least that's what I was striving for. :)

Oddly enough, when I first saw this, I thought that it was an overhead perspective of a duck floating on a stream, surrounded by marsh reeds. Then I saw the bird's tiny talons and realized my error. Just thought I would share my silliness! ;)~

It's as if the bird is forever frozen in time, staring those berries down for all eternity, simply because you painted it. Of course I know that the bird would surely take wing and snatch them out of midair in another moment or two, but that is the magic of such imagery. Another lovely poem to complement the painting and its symbolic meaning, as well! Very nice.

shouGawa responds:

Haha! Yeah, after a little looking at it I see what you mean about the duck. It's always interesting how our eyes interpret any given imagery! There are times I see something and only after minutes of looking see what the image really is. Usually I think it's something totally different from the actual image! lol... smh

I do love to capture a moment. Magic is a key item in art, I think! Thank you for such kind words, ChronoNomad!
